Configuring Outlook Profile

Use this guide to create a new Outlook profile on Windows.

Configuring the Outlook Profile

  1. From Windows Start, search for Control Panel.
  2. Open Control Panel.
  3. In the search bar, type Mail.
  4. Open Mail.
  5. Click Show Profiles.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Enter a profile name.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Enter your name, email address, password, and password confirmation.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Allow AutoDiscover to find server settings and connect to the mailbox.
  12. If prompted, confirm the settings.
  13. Select Save this password in your password list if you do not want to enter the password each time Microsoft applications open.
  14. Click OK.
  15. Click Finish after setup completes.

Changing Mail Password from Web Browser

Use this guide to change your mailbox password through Outlook Web App / Outlook on the web.

Steps

  1. Open your web browser.
  2. Sign in to your email account on your web browser.
  3. Click Settings / Gear icon.
  4. Select Change password.

    Note

    If the option is not visible, go to your account profile or security settings, then select Change password.

  5. Enter your current password.

  6. Enter the new password and confirm it.
  7. Click Save to complete the password change.

    Heads-up

    After changing your password, update the saved password on your workstation, Outlook client, and mobile devices to avoid repeated failed login attempts or account lockout.

Updating Mail Password on Mobile

Use this guide to update your mailbox password in the Outlook mobile application after your mailbox password has been changed.

Updating Password in Outlook Mobile App

After changing your mailbox password, Outlook mobile may detect a sign-in or sync issue and prompt you to enter the latest password.

  1. Open the Outlook application on your mobile device.
  2. If prompted to sign in again, enter the latest password.
  3. Confirm that the mailbox syncs successfully.

If Outlook Does Not Prompt for the New Password

If Outlook does not prompt you to enter the latest password, reset the account from the Outlook mobile application.

  1. Open the Outlook application on your mobile device.
  2. Tap your profile picture at the top left of the app.
  3. Tap the Settings gear icon at the bottom left.
  4. Under Mail Accounts, tap your email account.
  5. Scroll down and tap Reset Account.
  6. Tap OK to confirm.

Note

The Outlook application may close after resetting the account. Wait a few minutes, then reopen the Outlook application.

  1. Open the Outlook application again.
  2. Tap your profile picture at the top left.
  3. Tap the Settings gear icon at the bottom left.
  4. Under Mail Accounts, tap your email account.
  5. If available, tap Edit Login Information.
  6. Enter the latest password.
  7. Save the changes and confirm that the mailbox syncs successfully.

Note

The Edit Login Information option may vary depending on the account type, device operating system, and Outlook application version.
