File Share (SMB/NFS) Backup and Restore
File share backup and restore creates copies of NFS or SMB shares and their contents so a share can be restored to a previous state when needed.
Overview
Use file share backups to protect against accidental deletion, data corruption, or system failure. Restores create a new restored share from a selected backup version.
Supported File Share Types
- NFS shares.
- SMB-CIFS shares.
Backup Options
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Scheduled backup | Create backups on a daily, weekly, or monthly regime. |
| On-demand backup | Immediately back up the share regardless of the selected backup regime. |
| Disable backup | Turn off scheduled backups. |
Note
Running an on-demand backup does not affect the configured backup regime.
Configuring Backup Policy
- Open the NFS or SMB share.
- Open the Backups tab.
- Click Manage Backup.
- Select the backup repository where the share should be stored.
- Choose the backup regime: Disable Backup, Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.
- Click Save.
Running On-Demand Backups
- Open the share.
- Open the Backups tab.
- Click Manage Backup.
- Use the on-demand backup option to back up the share immediately.
- Click Save.
Restoring a File Share
- Open the NFS or SMB share.
- Open the Backups tab.
- On the desired backup version record, open the three-dot menu.
- Select Restore Share.
- In the Restore to a New Share modal, enter the new share name and description.
- Return to the NFS or SMB share list.
- Confirm that the newly restored share appears in the list.
Operational Considerations
